Clean & Safe

The Tourism Board in Portugal has introduced a seal of approval to highlight tourism activities that ensure hygiene and cleaning rules are followed to reduce and control Covid-19 and other possible infections.

Tourist establishments, leisure tourism businesses, and travel agencies registered with the Turismo de Portugal Tourist Board can apply for the Clean & Safe label, but in order to do so, they must ensure that they meet certain requirements.

With these measures, Turismo de Portugal intends to inform businesses of the hygiene requirements and cleaning measures to ensure the safety of the different establishments in accordance with the recommendations of the DGS – Directorate General of Health, as well as to promote Portugal as a safe destination in terms of concern for the spread of the virus and to increase the confidence of those who travel to the country.

Madeira Safe to Discover – Discover Madeira safely

Since the beginning of the pandemic, a number of preventive measures have been in place in Madeira to combat the epidemiological spread on the island.
From 1 July 2020, Madeira and Porto Santo will be fully open to international travelers. To ensure the safety of tourists and residents, we have designed a plan of action:

  • it is recommended that all passengers get tested within 72 hours before departure.
  • passengers who have not been tested will be tested free of charge upon arrival at Madeira Airport.

All passengers, whether Portuguese citizens or foreigners, with planned travel to Madeira, can have PCR (polymerase chain reaction) tests for COVID-19 carried out free of charge in several Portuguese cities.
